Nathan-Alison-Henry-Jack
Dec. 6th, 2007 08:44 amIt's a typical start to the day, for Department of Defense agent Alison Blake, government liaison to Global Dynamics in Eureka, Oregon, population: thousands of people far too smart for their own good.
5:00 am: Wake up, half hour treadmill run, fifteen minutes tai-chi, shower.
6:00 am: Wake up Brian, get him dressed for tutors and make breakfast.
6:45 am: Drop Brian off, drive to the office.
Right on schedule.

Date: 2007-12-13 02:35 am (UTC)Normal people at least turn around to recognize who it is when someone walks into their office. One of the joys of being director of Global Dynamics is not having to worry about such things, she imagines him saying at some other time.
Alison's not in the mood to bait him just now, and when she comes to a stop between the front of Nathan's desk and the balcony overlooking the lobby, she crosses her arms pointedly.

"It's late."

"It's seven o'clock. In the morning; have you been here all night?"

"I guess I got a little caught up."

Date: 2007-12-13 03:08 am (UTC)"It's not."
As he crosses the room to a corner table and picks up the pot of coffee there, Stark adds,
"I have to justify a number that'll keep Global cutting-edge--"
He lifts the pot and glances at her inquiringly.

"You saw what they did to NASA."

Date: 2007-12-13 03:23 am (UTC)Even Nathan, workaholic as he is, would not stay all night in his office unless it was for a very good, and very influential, reason.

Date: 2007-12-13 03:33 am (UTC)He walks back across the room and looks out over the lobby for a moment before facing Alison.
"Flew in from McChord Air Force Base last night." Stark leans comfortably against the balcony railing as he informs her,
"He expects hard numbers and a field test of the PX-319 project at nine AM."
Stark can't quite help the small grimace that twists his mouth at the thought. He takes a sip of coffee.
"Hopefully he'll be impressed."

A beat.
"The man's smart, but he likes the sound of his own voice too much."

Date: 2007-12-13 03:50 am (UTC)"Hrmph. Who does that remind me of?"

Date: 2007-12-13 03:54 am (UTC)"Maybe a little groveling will help."
He glances up at Alison.
"Whatever it takes."
About that, there's no question.
"Global's future is all I care about."

"That sounds familiar too."

Date: 2007-12-16 02:12 am (UTC)"This has to go smoothly, Alison. And not just for Global."
He straightens and moves past her, heading back toward his desk.
"Maybe you can talk to Sheriff Carter." His disdain is evident. "See if he can keep things quiet around here."
Stark sits down and sets his coffee cup aside, adding,
"For a change."

Date: 2007-12-16 02:20 am (UTC)"See what I can do, Nathan."
This is going to require coffee, Alison muses, and she beeps Jack and Jo to meet her at Cafe Diem.

Date: 2007-12-20 11:57 pm (UTC)Alison keeps herself in very good shape; her grande triple espresso in the morning is one of her very, very few foibles.

Date: 2007-12-21 12:00 am (UTC)"I'm waiting," Jack offers without even so much as a sip of his own coffee. Walking in between Jo and Alison past the café and the shops along Archimedes Way, Jack laughs at Alison's feigned "For what?"
"Oh, come on. You're a woman, you're makin' small talk, you're buying me coffee -- which means either A) you're into me, or B) you want something."
